This poster was created for the Posterheros 14, Seeds of Kindness competition. The core idea I had for this poster was focusing on the bonds that connect us with others and the different ways we can represent compassion between people.
The imagery was created through a process of experimental image studies. I first created a matrix of various materials I had access to, followed by an action. I then randomly selected four materials and action pairings and attempted to create as many interesting forms as I could in about an hour. The material and action pairing that I went forward with for this poster was "twist" and "bubblewrap."
I felt this was my most successful study due to the unique and interesting forms that I was able to create. I initially had a bit of trouble trying to come up with an interesting way to approach this pairing, as early on, I noticed that it was a bit difficult to emphasize a sort of twisting motion on a single piece of bubble wrap. I tried twisting several together, which provided a bit better results; however, the bubble wrap twists were still a bit muddled together. It wasn’t until I tried adding acrylic paint that it began to come together. I utilized several different blues to create a sort of gradient within the forms and help create a bit of separation between the pieces of bubble wrap. The use of acrylic paint also helps accentuate the actual bubbles on the bubble wrap.
The color palette I utilized was meant to evoke a sort of calming and ethereal space to capture this idea of the invisible connections between people, with an abstracted form of two hands embracing meant to represent the physical connections between people formed through acts of kindness. I
